10 Travel Tips

1. Tires: Check for sufficient tread depth 4/32" or less is ready for replacement. Bulges or cuts can indicate structural problems that can be dangerous. Check tire pressures in accordance with the sticker on the drivers hood.
2. Belts & Hoses: Check Belts for cracks or fraying that indicate excess wear & Hoses for swelling or leaks that may lead to failure and engine overheating
3. Fluids: Have all your vehicles fluids checked such as coolant, engine oil, and transmission fluid, differential oils and on all wheel drive vehicles the transfer case oil.
4. Check that your vehicle maintenance is up to date. Clean engine oil & filter and clean engine air filter will enhance performance, economy and peace of mind.
5. Brakes: Have a trained professional inspect for excess wear of brake pads. Vibration when braking indicates the brake rotors need attention. Brake fluid should be changed per the maintenance schedule to prevent corrosion to brake components.
6. Lights: Inspect all lights, turn signals & brake lights, headlight high & low beam and correct any issues. Inspect lamps & lens for cracks & chips that may let water in and cause the bulb to fail.
7. Clean your car before you pack. Thoroughly wash & vacuum your car. It's much nicer to have your trip in a clean car.
8. Paperwork: Make sure your license, registration and insurance are all current and accessible.
9. Gas it up. Might as well fill it up before you start, gas can be more expensive on the road.
